About

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry bridges the gap between chemistry and pharmacy, providing a vital foundation for drug discovery and development. Students study the chemical structures, properties, synthesis, and analysis of pharmaceutical compounds. They learn about the relationship between chemical structure and biological activity (structure-activity relationship or SAR), applying this knowledge to design and optimize drug candidates. Analytical techniques, such as chromatography and spectroscopy, are covered extensively, enabling students to identify and quantify drugs.

The department also focuses on medicinal chemistry, which involves the design, synthesis, and evaluation of new drug molecules with therapeutic potential. Research within Pharmaceutical Chemistry often involves synthesizing and characterizing novel compounds, investigating their pharmacological properties, and developing new analytical methods. Graduates can pursue careers in drug discovery, medicinal chemistry, analytical chemistry, and quality control within the pharmaceutical industry and research institutions.
