The Department of Pharmaceutics is the cornerstone of drug formulation and delivery. It focuses on transforming active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) into safe, effective, and stable dosage forms. Students delve into the science of drug formulation, learning about the physical, chemical, and biological properties of drugs and excipients.
They explore various dosage forms, including tablets, capsules, injections, and novel systems like nanoparticles. Key areas of study include solubility, dissolution, stability, bioavailability, and bioequivalence. Research within Pharmaceutics often involves designing and optimizing drug delivery systems to improve therapeutic efficacy and patient compliance.
This department equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop and manufacture high-quality pharmaceutical products, ensuring drugs reach their target sites in the body and elicit the desired therapeutic effects. Graduates can pursue careers in formulation development, manufacturing, quality control, and regulatory affairs within the pharmaceutical industry.

I am a pharmaceutical science professional with a robust background in academic research and preclinical drug development. Currently serving as a Lecturer at SDM University, College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (since October 2024), I bring with me MSc Pharmaceutical Science graduate research experience in advanced pharmaceutical methodologies. My academic research at Ulster University, UK, centered on colon-targeted drug delivery systems, where I honed expertise in ADME, dosage regimen design, and both in-vitro and in-vivo experimentation.
During this time, I performed high-precision quantification of colon histology in DSS-induced mouse models using the Aperio ScanScope, complemented by rigorous statistical analysis using GraphPad Prism. This work deepened my understanding of drug efficacy on ulcerative colon.
Prior to academia, I served as a Scientist in Preclinical Research at Anthem Bioscience Pvt. Ltd., India, where I contributed to GLP-compliant preclinical studies supporting novel therapeutic solutions. My tenure enhanced my practical skills in aseptic techniques, sterile processing, and biological sample analysis, while also providing valuable exposure to clinical research workflows and the full drug development lifecycle.
With a strong foundation in R&D methodology, analytical techniques, and pharmaceutical sciences, I remain committed to advancing drug delivery research and contributing to innovation in healthcare.
