Poster Presentation Competition on Mitochondrial Health and Diseases – World Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week. The programme was organized by Reseach directorate SDM university Dharwad.

The programme was formally inaugurated by the Chief Guest Shri V.G. Prabhu, and the dignitories Dr. Niranjan Kumar Vice Chancellor SDMU, Shri V Jeevendra Kumar Pro VC SDMU, Shri Saketh Shetty Director Administartion followed by a visit to the poster displays. The participating teams from SDM College of Pharmaceutical Sciences explained the scientific background, objectives, proposed methodology/concept and relevance of their respective topics. The interaction enabled the presenters to demonstrate scientific knowledge and communication skills and to receive constructive feedback.

The poster presentation promoted awareness of mitochondrial function and disease and encouraged participants to develop their presented concepts further through literature exploration, identification of research gaps, experimental investigation and possible future research projects, publications or interdisciplinary research initiatives.

As part of World Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week (14–20 September 2026). The programme commenced at approximately 10:30 AM in the corridors of Ishavasyam, SDMU, in the presence of the Chief Guest, faculty members, research scholars, students and participants from various SDMU institutions.

SDM College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Sattur, Dharwad, participated in the poster presentation competition with scientific posters focused on emerging concepts in mitochondrial health, mitochondrial disorders, AI/ML, nanomedicine and targeted drug delivery. The participation provided students and faculty with an opportunity to present scientific concepts, interact with faculty and the Chief Guest, and communicate research- oriented ideas related to mitochondrial disease and therapeutic development. The first poster presentation was presented by Mr. Basavaraj K. Somapur entitled as “Tumor-Targeted Stimuli-Responsive Nanocarriers for Mitochondrial Delivery and Autophagy/Mitophagy Reprogramming in Cancer Therapy” and student Presenter is Ms. Madiha Sheikh. Mr. Basavaraj K. Somapur guided and mentored the student, Ms. Madiha Sheikh, in the preparation and presentation of the poster.

The Focus of the poster was proposed tumor-targeted, stimuli-responsive nanocarrier framework for mitochondrial drug delivery and modulation of autophagy/mitophagy in cancer therapy. Further poster was entitled as “AI/ML-Enabled Mitochondria-Targeted Drug Delivery in Kearns–Sayre Syndrome: Opportunities, Challenges, and Future Therapeutic Perspectives” Student Presenter was Ms. Sonali Laxman Gaonkar the poster was mainly focused on A proposed AI/ML-enabled framework integrating mitochondrial targeting, computational design, nanocarrier development and preclinical evaluation for Kearns–Sayre syndrome. The last and 3 rd poster was entiltled as “AI- and CADD-Guided Herbal Nanodelivery for Investigating Oxidative Stress Modulation and Mitochondrial Protection in Leigh Syndrome”

The Presenter was Mr. Basavaraj K. Somapur from Department of Pharmacology. And the focus of the poster was to A conceptual framework integrating AI/ML, computer- aided drug design (CADD), phytochemical selection and mitochondria-oriented nanodelivery to investigate potential oxidative-stress modulation and mitochondrial protection in Leigh syndrome. The proposed mechanisms and therapeutic effects require experimental validation.
