Overview

The SDM College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, under SDM University, organized an insightful industrial visit for first- and second-year B. Pharm students to Shri Bhavani Pharmaceuticals on 25th June 2025. The visit aimed to bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world industrial practices, enhancing the students' understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing and regulatory compliance.

Objective

The primary objective of the visit was to provide students with exposure to a pharmaceutical industrial setup and help them correlate classroom learning with practical applications. Such engagements are vital to foster industry-academia collaboration and to enrich the academic curriculum with real- time industry practices.

Shri Bhavani Pharmaceuticals is a reputed WHO–GMP and ISO 9001:2008 certified manufacturing unit located in Dharwad. The facility specializes in sterile dosage forms and maintains a strong commitment to quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

Visit Highlights

Pre-Visit Briefing

The visit commenced with a welcome and briefing session conducted by the HR team of Shri Bhavani Pharmaceuticals, offering students a detailed overview of the company’s operations and certifications.

Facility Tour

Students were taken through the following departments:

  • Material Reception & Storage: Introduction to air-locked storage zones for APIs and excipients with strict quarantine protocols.
  • Manufacturing Section:
    • Exposure to small-volume parenteral (SVP) production lines.
    • Demonstrations of aseptic techniques, sterilization processes, and cleanroom operations.
  • Quality Control & Assurance:
    • Observation of testing protocols for raw materials, in-process, and finished products.
    • Insight into documentation practices such as Master Formula Records and Batch Manufacturing Records, aligned with WHO and PICS standards.
  • Packaging & Labeling:
    • Familiarization with high-speed capping and tamper-evident labeling techniques.
    • Emphasis on traceability and compliance with regulatory packaging standards.
  • Utilities & Support Systems:
    • Overview of HVAC systems, water purification (WFI/PW), compressed air utilities, and effluent treatment—critical elements of GMP environments.
