Pharmacy, marked World Pharmacists Day on September 25, 2025,
at the DRH Auditorium, SDM Hospital Building, focusing on the
theme “Think Health, Think Pharmacist”.
Key Programme Details
The event featured a welcome to dignitaries, including chief guest
Dr. Niranjan Kumar -Vice Chancellor and several guests of honor
such as Dr. Kiran Aithal, Dr. Makhdoom Killedar, Mr. V. G. Prabhu,
and Mr. B.S. Patil were present in the function.
Lectures and Presentations
- Dr. Anil Tumkur, Vice Principal, delivered a lecture on
“Think Health, Think Pharmacist,” elaborating on the
pharmacist's role in patient care and discussing how
pharmaceutical care achieves economical, clinical, and
humanistic outcomes. He emphasized pharmacists’
importance as health professionals directly influencing
patient well-being through safe medication use and outcome
optimization.
- Dr. Makhdoom Killedar, Deputy Medical Superintendent,
highlighted the pharmacist’s role at the last mile of
healthcare. He stressed pharmacists’ responsibilities in
dispensing and counseling patients about their medications
and underlined how effective communication at this stage is
essential for patient safety and treatment adherence, thus
contributing significantly to the overall patient care process.
Student Perspective
Miss Sahana Laddimath, a first-year B. Pharm student, shared her
motivation for joining the course, expressing a genuine interest in
understanding how drugs act within the body. Her participation
represented the enthusiasm of the next generation of pharmacists and
highlighted the academic vigor of the program.
Awards and Felicitations
- Mr. Basavaraj S Patil was honored for his 46 years of service
as a community pharmacist in Dharwad. In his address, he
identified respect, honesty, and ethics as the primary pillars
for success and trust in community pharmacy practice,
reiterating their importance in building strong relationships
with the community.
- Additionally, 15 pharmacists from SDM Pharmacy received
long-standing service awards, recognizing their invaluable
dedication and contributions to patient care and the
institution’s legacy of service.
The World Pharmacists Day celebration at SDM College and SDM
Pharmacy brought together professionals, students, and community
leaders. The varied presentations illustrated the ever-expanding
responsibilities of pharmacists, the critical value of ethics, and the
importance of education in the field. The event fostered pride in the
pharmacy profession and reaffirmed the significant role pharmacists
play in healthcare and society.
